Once upon a time, most battery-powered consumer devices required six or even eight AA, C or D-sized batteries that wouldn’t last terribly long. It seemed like you had to change the batteries every hour or two!Not only was this expensive, it was incredibly wasteful too. Batteries like this also contain harmful chemicals that would get into the environment.
As time changes though, so does technology.
Batteries today, specifically lithium-ion polymer batteries, last much longer than their disposable predecessors. They’re also rechargeable, meaning you can use them over and over again.
While lithium-ion batteries – like the ones we use in our e-cig starter kits – last much longer and can be recharged, they still wear out and require replacement. And while it isn’t prohibitively expensive to replace an e-cig battery, costs can add up.
Hekvapor E-cig Batteries
- Mini – lasts up to 175 puffs
- Standard – lasts up to 250 puffs
- High-Capacity – lasts up to 350 puffs
Doing some or all of the following 7 actions will help you extend the life of your e-cig battery. Continue reading for these 7 tips, along with some other concerns specific to automatic and/or manual e-cig batteries.
- Use your Battery Regularly Similar to why you should exercise regularly, e-cig batteries also benefit from regular use. The more they perform, the easier power will flow through the battery’s cells. The lithium-ion batteries used in our e-cigs are designed to be used daily, which is why they’re also common in cell phones.
- Be Careful with Where you Keep your Battery While this may seem like common sense, we sometimes get careless and don’t think about how something may be harming our devices. In regard to e-cig batteries, direct sunlight and heat can dramatically affect their lifespan. And we all know how electricity and water don’t mix, so keep your battery away from water. You should also be mindful of any impacts, and protect your e-cig battery from being dropped or otherwise sustaining a big hit.
- Change Your E-cig Battery Before It’s Drained This is why many vapers keep a rotation of batteries on hand for their e-cig. Waiting until the battery is fully drained before plugging it into a charger will most certainly reduce its life. Ideally, you should recharge it when you’ve used ½ the available power but definitely when you begin noticing a loss in power.
You can compare your e-cig battery to a train – it’s much easier for a slow-moving train to speed up than for a stationary train to start moving in the first place. Likewise, it’s much easier for a battery with some life left in it to be recharged than it is for one that’s completely dead.
- Don’t Store your Battery With Less than 50% Charge Any batteries you store for future use should have a full charge. Storing them with 50% or less charge will cause them to drain faster. Similar to completely draining your battery before recharging, your e-cig battery will have to work harder to deliver the power you need to use your device. Like anything, the harder it has to work, the shorter its lifespan will be.
- Disconnect Cartomizer from Battery When Not in Use This is really only needed when you won’t be using your device for an extended period of time. When the cartomizer (…which contains the heating element and nicotine liquid) is connected to the battery, it’s always draining a little bit of juice, even when you’re not using your e-cig. That’s why disconnecting the cartomizer and battery extends the time between charges, which of course extends the number of recharges you can do and by extension, the time before you’ll need to replace the battery.
- Unscrew E-cig Battery When Finished Charging When you’re done charging, take your battery off of the charger as soon as possible. Doing so will ensure you’re not overcharging the battery, which can overwork the device and reduce its lifespan. The only time this doesn’t apply is when you’re charging the battery for the first time where it’s suggested you leave it on the charger for an extra hour or so.
- Keep Threads and Contacts on Cartomizer and Battery Clean One more thing you need to do to ensure long battery life is make sure the contacts between the battery and the cartomizer stay clean. Over time, they can either get dirty or even moist, which can ruin an e-cig battery. Use a cotton swab, Q-tip or alcohol pad and periodically wipe down the threads and contacts where your cartomizer and battery hook together.
